Eyes bigger than my bookshelf

Books are awesome. The listings below are just some of the books I have enjoyed recently. Of course everyone is different and these are just my opinions, but they should probably be yours too.

Frank Dikotter

Extraordinarily detailed and well researched description of the Chinese revolution. Also utterly depressing.

The Tragedy of Liberation

Robert Putnam

Data heavy overview of how society has dramatically changed from the 1950’s to modern times.

Bowling Alone

Alex Haley

An extraordinary individual whose politics were incredibly divisive. Mellowed in his later years.

The Autobiography of Malcolm X

Nick Bilton

The true story of the Silk Road marketplace. Drugs, hacking, murder and money.

American Kingpin

Bill Browder

True story about a hedge fund manager and his Russian operations, but as gripping as any thriller. So good.

Red Notice

Jonathan Haidt

The canonical reference for understanding liberals and conservatives. So good.

The Righteous Mind

Kim Zetter

Stuxnet was a phenomenal piece of engineering, showing that malware can be used to go kinetic.

Countdown to Zero Day

Lee Kuan Yew

Singapore is an Asian success story. To understand it you need to understand SM Lee.

From Third World to First

Terry Hayes

Cracking thriller from an already successful screenwriter. Do not read the sequel, as it is a massive disappointment.

I am Pilgrim

Ben Macintyre

Kim Philby - the most notorious traitor and Soviet mole in British history. There are many books chronicling this affair, but this is one of the better ones.

A Spy Among Friends

Jerry Colonna

Recommended to me by my executive coach and worth a read. Prepare yourself for some radical self-examination.

Reboot - Leadership And The Art Of Growing Up

Daniel Keyes

I am slowly getting into more sci-fi these days. This is a classic, about a man who receives an operation that turns him into a genius

Flowers For Algernon
